Jim & Dawn Sweeney
Dawn grew up in Wisconsin working hard on her family’s farm. She spent a number of years in Charlotte, NC before making Charleston her home in 1996. Dawn has worked in Food and Beverage for over 20 years in restaurants and for a number of food service purveyors. She has worked for Johnson and Wales University, the nation’s premier culinary institution, for over 15 years.
Jim was raised on Long Island, NY. After a four year stint in Northern New Jersey he moved to Charlotte, NC and then settled in Charleston in 2008. Jim began his career working for a caterer in Long Island, NY at the ripe old age of 12. He has been a Restaurant and Bar Manager, Multi-Unit Manager, General Manager and Hotel Food and Beverage Director.
No matter where they lived, their restaurant dream has travelled with them. Together they bring their love of food, knowledge and experience to the Charleston area to create a unique and one-of-a kind restaurant experience.
While living in Southern Pines, NC, Jared was Chef di Cuisine at Chef Warren’s, using ingredients grown in the restaurant’s own gardens. After eight years in North Carolina, Jared was selected to be Sous Chef in the opening team at Manzo (within Mario Batali and Lidia Bastianich’s Eataly) and relocated to Manhattan. For more than two years at Manzo, Jared focused on innovative techniques using traditional ingredients. Drawn back to his adopted home in the Carolinas and the booming Charleston, SC food scene, Jared looks forward to bringing his love of combining local foods and sophisticated executions to Sweeney’s.
